Last year at Shea, you had Delta, Sharp, Chevy and Verizon:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/shea\/09-22-08\/477thinningstretch.jpg\" alt=\"Mr. Met On Jumbotron, Seventh Inning Stretch, New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs, Shea Stadium, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, September 22, 2008\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then State Farm and of course the infamous AIG:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/shea\/04-10-08\/3404-10-08.jpg\" alt=\"New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Shea Stadium, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, April 10, 2008\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This year, on the food media day before the stadium opened, on March 31, 2009, there was a sort of blank slate &#8212; not sure if they didn&#8217;t put the signs up yet or if (hrm!) they didn&#8217;t know who would buy signage:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/culinaryallstars\/19citifield.jpg\" alt=\"Citi Field, Culinary All-Stars Media Preview, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, March 31, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So now that the stadium is up and running, note that AIG is notably absent, and in its place, an expanded &#8220;freecreditreport.com&#8221; presence:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/05-07-09\/21freecreditreport.jpg\" alt=\"Left Field Signage, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, May 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re the ones with that ad with the garage band in the basement; still not sure what the catch is, and why this is a profitable enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>As for the newcomers, there&#8217;s Bob&#8217;s Furniture:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/05-07-09\/17bobs.jpg\" alt=\"Left-Center Signage, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, May 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>spongetech.com (what is that exactly?) and superpages.com:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/05-07-09\/19spongetech.jpg\" alt=\"Left Field Signage, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, May 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The old sell-your-gold thing:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/05-07-09\/23gold.jpg\" alt=\"Center Field Scoreboard Signage, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, May 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Titan Motors:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/05-07-09\/27titan.jpg\" alt=\"Scoreboard Signage, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, May 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arpielleequipment.com\/\">Arpielle Equipment Co.<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/citifield\/05-07-09\/24scoreboard.jpg\" alt=\"Scoreboard Signage, New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Citi Field, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, May 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In short, the Citi Field ads look a lot like what you&#8217;d see at a minor league game.<\/p>\n<p>Arpielle Equipment Co. also sponsors the Mets&#8217; version of the ubiquitous [blank] vs. [blank] race, that computer-generated doodad where digitalized items &#8220;race&#8221; each other and the results are randomly generated. I think it&#8217;s supposed to elicit a crowd response, but I don&#8217;t feel at all bad not rooting for a computer program. At Yankee Stadium last year (haven&#8217;t been there this year yet) the B, D and 4 trains &#8220;raced&#8221; each other to the stadium. The Phillies do a similar thing with SEPTA and its joke of a subway system. At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/westpoint\/michiestadium\/index.htm\">Army football games at West Point<\/a>, they race <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VJD6BUDIWPc\">tanks<\/a>. Spectators at other ballparks seem to enjoy the eternal ketchup-mustard-relish match. But the Arpielle [blank] vs. [blank] at Citi Field is just inexplicable &#8212; it&#8217;s a fork lift against a light tower.
