Lautenberg Secaucus Junction Rail Station, Secaucus, New Jersey, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/moodnaviaduct\/index.htm\">Moodna Viaduct<\/a> trestle bridge is 3200 feet long and rises 193 feet above the valley below, making it the second-highest, second-longest trestle bridge east of the Mississippi River (second, that is, to the Poughkeepsie Bridge, otherwise known as the <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/walkwayoverthehudson\/index.htm\">Walkway Over the Hudson<\/a>):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/moodnaviaduct\/0211-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"View From Moodna Viaduct, Orange County, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/portjervis\/index.htm\">Port Jervis<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/6211-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Port Jervis Station, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/0211-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Front Street at Sussex Street, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m fuzzy when it comes to railroad minutiae but it says the Port Jervis line was once the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Erie_Railroad\">Erie Railroad<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Erie_Limited\">Erie Limited<\/a> was a fairly big time passenger route running from Hudson County across from Manhattan to Chicago. This charming old station served as the passenger stop for Port Jervis (the current Metro-North station is much more modest):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/1011-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Port Jervis Station (Erie Railroad), Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/theeriehotel\/index.htm\">The Erie Hotel and Restaurant<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/0711-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"The Erie Hotel &amp; Restaurant, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We happened upon this wonderful little caboose in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/1411-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Erie Caboose, Jersey Avenue at Pennsylvania Avenue, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The picturesque <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/laurelgrovecemetery\/index.htm\">Laurel Grove Cemetery<\/a> sits on a finger of land between the Delaware and Neversink Rivers:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/2011-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/2211-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/3111-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the tip of the peninsula is the <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/tri-statesmonument\/index.htm\">Tri-States Monument<\/a>, which is the exact spot where the borders of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania intersect:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/3411-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Tri-States Monument, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/3711-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Tri-States Monument, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A nearby stele &#8220;witnesses&#8221; the marker and provides details . . .<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/3311-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Witness Monument, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 115-foot-long <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/erieturntable\/index.htm\">Erie Turntable<\/a> dates to 1927 and was part of the railyard at Port Jervis; turntables are used to turn locomotives around where there is not a lot of space for a turnaround:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/5411-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Erie Turntable, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/5511-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Erie Turntable, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/hudsonvalley\/orangecounty\/portjervis\/11-13-22\/5611-13-22.jpg\" alt=\"Erie Turntable, Port Jervis, New York, November 13, 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We visited in 2022, just before the Port Jervis Transportation History Center was to have opened.
