{"id":112,"date":"2009-06-03T06:56:29","date_gmt":"2009-06-03T14:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/blog\/?p=112"},"modified":"2009-06-03T07:21:33","modified_gmt":"2009-06-03T15:21:33","slug":"las_vegas_512-1709","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/blog\/2009\/06\/03\/las_vegas_512-1709\/","title":{"rendered":"Las Vegas: 5\/12-17\/09"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Las Vegas from May 12 to May 17, 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/redrockcanyon\/index.htm\">Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area<\/a> was surprising in a great way; Las Vegas is hundreds of square miles of concrete and I really never connected the place to natural beauty. There is actually a lot of natural beauty in the area:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/redrockcanyon\/051redrockcanyon.jpg\" alt=\"Calico Hills, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But of course there is also the main reason over 37 million people visit Las Vegas each year &#8212; its pedestrian-friendly urban planning. Here is a walk down <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/day\/index.htm\">The Las Vegas Strip During The Day<\/a> (a few images are from our 2005 trip to Las Vegas, but the bulk of them are new, and there are links to each spot from the page). We started out near the Happi Inn, across from the Luxor, a remnant of the &#8220;old&#8221; Strip:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/day\/073939lasvegasblvds.jpg\" alt=\"Happi Inn, 3939 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p>. . . learned about our entertainment options:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/day\/17eharmonave.jpg\" alt=\"Las Vegas Boulevard South (The Strip) North Of Harmon Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/day\/11sidewalk.jpg\" alt=\"Sidewalk, The Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard South), Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p>. . . and ended our journey at the strange architecture of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/fashionshow\/index.htm\">Fashion Show<\/a>, 2.5 miles later:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/fashionshow\/08fashionshow.jpg\" alt=\"Fashion Show, 3200 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p> Along the way we wended through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/luxor\/index.htm\">Luxor<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/excalibur\/index.htm\">Excalibur<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/newyork\/index.htm\">New York-New York<\/a>, got lost in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/mgmgrand\/index.htm\">MGM Grand<\/a> (and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/mgmgrand\/lionhabitat\/index.htm\">Lion Habitat<\/a>), passed by the mammoth new construction at <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/citycenter\/index.htm\">CityCenter<\/a>, skirted by <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/planethollywood\/index.htm\">Planet Hollywood<\/a> and <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/paris\/index.htm\">Paris Las Vegas<\/a>, stopped in the <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/bellagio\/index.htm\">Bellagio Hotel &#038; Casino<\/a> and the World Recordbreaking Chocolate Fountain at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/bellagio\/jeanphilippepatisserie\/index.htm\">Jean-Philippe Patisserie<\/a>, scooted across one of the pedestrian walkways that rises above the ten-lane roads to <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/caesars\/index.htm\">Caesars Palace<\/a> where we saw the odd animatronic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/caesars\/fallofatlantis\/index.htm\">Fall of Atlantis Fountain Show<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/caesars\/aquarium\/index.htm\">Aquarium<\/a> and ate at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/caesars\/beijingnoodleno9\/index.htm\">Beijing Noodle No. 9<\/a>, then walked by <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/mirage\/index.htm\">The Mirage<\/a> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/mirage\/siegfriedandroy\/index.htm\">Siegfried and Roy Statue<\/a>, through <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/treasureisland\/index.htm\">Treasure Island<\/a> and finally visited the <a href=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/wynn\/index.htm\">Wynn<\/a>, before heading back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/mresort\/index.htm\">The M Resort<\/a> in Henderson via its shuttle bus that departs from Fashion Show. We walk a lot but this was a long day.<\/p>\n<p>Feed: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/lotusofsiam\/index.htm\">Lotus of Siam<\/a> for the best Thai food in the U.S. (and this includes Woodside, Queens&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/queens\/menus\/sripraphai.htm\">Sripraphai<\/a> . . . highly recommended), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/raku\/index.htm\">Raku Japanese Charcoal Grill<\/a> (highly recommended) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/wynn\/bartolotta\/index.htm\">Bartolotta<\/a> at the Wynn (highly highly recommended). This dish at Raku was described as &#8220;Bonito Guts&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/raku\/18bonito.jpg\" alt=\"Bonito Guts, Raku Japanese Charcoal Grill, 5030 West Spring Mountain Road, #2, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oddities: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/sergesshowgirlwigs\/index.htm\">Serge&#8217;s Showgirl Wigs<\/a> in the same shopping center as Lotus of Siam, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/welcometofabulouslasvegassign\/index.htm\">Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Sign<\/a> at the southern end of the Strip, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/lasvegasmonorail\/index.htm\">Las Vegas Monorail<\/a> (the first privately financed mass transportation system in the U.S. since WWII &#8212; it&#8217;s also really expensive at $5 a trip!) and the PG-13 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/treasureisland\/sirensofti\/index.htm\">Sirens of TI<\/a> show outside Treasure Island.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/strip\/welcometofabulouslasvegassign\/1105-17-09.jpg\" alt=\"Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, Las Vegas Boulevard South Between Sunset Road and Russell Road, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then of course there are the slot machines at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/mccarraninternationalairport\/index.htm\">McCarran International Airport<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/nevada\/lasvegas\/mccarraninternationalairport\/10baggageclaim.jpg\" alt=\"Slot Machines, Baggage Claim, McCarran International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Las Vegas from May 12 to May 17, 2009.
