First went over towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/manhattan\/lowermanhattan\/battery\/index.htm\">The Battery<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/manhattan\/lowermanhattan\/battery\/piera\/index.htm\">Pier A<\/a>, which they seem no closer to renovating, except for some fancy signage:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/manhattan\/lowermanhattan\/battery\/piera\/0606-07-09.jpg\" alt=\"Pier A, Battery Park, Lower Manhattan, June 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So we decided to take the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/redhook\/ikeaexpress\/index.htm\">IKEA Express Water Taxi to Red Hook<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/redhook\/ikeaexpress\/17lowermanhattan.jpg\" alt=\"Lower Manhattan From IKEA Express Water Taxi To Red Hook, Brooklyn\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/redhook\/eriebasinpark\/index.htm\">Erie Basin Park<\/a> there:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/redhook\/eriebasinpark\/08eriebasinpark.jpg\" alt=\"Erie Basin Park, Red Hook, Brooklyn\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Truthfully, Red Hook was a little hot that day (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wunderground.com\/weatherstation\/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KNYNEWYO51&#038;month=6&#038;day=7&#038;year=2009\">83 degrees, 77 percent humidity<\/a>), so we returned home via the B61.<\/p>\n<p>In Greenpoint, a word of warning, and some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/citywide\/curiosities\/advice\/index.htm\">good advice<\/a> in general:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/citywide\/curiosities\/advice\/02greenpointave06-07-09.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Bed Bugs: Don't Take,&quot; Greenpoint Avenue, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, June 7, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not that we&#8217;re in the market for a new mattress or anything, but good to know . . .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shut out of the 1 p.m. ferry to Governors Island because of the 2009 Jazz Age Lawn Party, we wandered around Lower Manhattan, wondering what to do.
