It&#8217;s also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2009\/07\/less_pedestrian_mall_than_state_fair_pavilion.html\">profitable as an event space<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2009\/05\/the_great_triumphs_of_the_bloomberg_tenure_flower_pots_full_of_cigarette_butts_menus_littered_with_odd_four-digit_numbers_and_lawn_furniture_on_broadway.html\">a bonanza for vendors<\/a>. No word yet whether it is actually better for traffic &#8212; the ostensible reason for the experiment &#8212; but people have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/ny_local\/2009\/05\/27\/2009-05-27_drivers_fume_over_carfree_broadway_say_truck_deliveries_around_times_square_a_di.html\">their<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/02\/26\/will-a-car-free-broadway-work\/\">theories<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In May, the City closed Broadway between 42nd and 47th Streets to traffic and set up lawn furniture.
