Pei-designed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/centercity\/societyhilltowers\/index.htm\">Society Hill Towers<\/a> (what&#8217;s with this guy anyway, getting props for these hulking monstrosities in the middle of low-slung neighborhoods? He&#8217;s also responsible for the Silver Towers in Greenwich Village, which was recently landmarked and similarly absurd . . .). The intriguing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/centercity\/rohmandhaasbuilding\/index.htm\">Rohm and Haas Building<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/centercity\/fogliettaplaza\/index.htm\">Foglietta Plaza<\/a>, somewhat forgotten between Society Hill and Penn&#8217;s Landing. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/centercity\/welcomepark\/index.htm\">Welcome Park<\/a>. Great meal at Jose Garces&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/centercity\/amada\/index.htm\">Amada Restaurant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In South Philadelphia, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/south\/holidayinn\/index.htm\">Holiday Inn Stadium<\/a>, which is actually a lot bigger than it looks from the baseball stadium:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/south\/phillies\/10-04-09\/054holidayinn.jpg\" alt=\"Holiday Inn Stadium From Section 331, Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 4, 2009\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(The Holiday Inn was featured on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avclub.com\/articles\/the-world-series-defense,34463\/\">an episode of It&#8217;s Always Sunny In Philadelphia<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Driving through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/frankford\/frankfordavenue\/index.htm\">Frankford<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/kensington\/kensingtonavenue\/index.htm\">Kensington<\/a> to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/kensington\/philadelphiabrewingcompany\/index.htm\">Philadelphia Brewing Company<\/a> (they have tours on Saturday and the beer is highly recommended!). In Frankford, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/frankford\/womrathpark\/index.htm\">Womrath Park<\/a>, which Jen said was the site of various punk shows in the late 1990s (and which was also known as &#8220;Hooker Park&#8221; back then).<\/p>\n<p>In Port Richmond, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/richmond\/byrnes\/index.htm\">Byrne&#8217;s Tavern<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/richmond\/greenrocktavern\/index.htm\">Green Rock Tavern<\/a>, which has a JFA paisley skateboard (check out those rail and tail guards!) that must be 25 years old . . . wow:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/richmond\/greenrocktavern\/0311-28-09.jpg\" alt=\"Green Rock Tavern, 2546 East Lehigh Avenue, Port Richmond, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/northeast\/jimssteaks\/index.htm\">Jim&#8217;s Steaks<\/a> in Northeast Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/montgomerycounty\/norristown\/mainstreet\/index.htm\">Main Street<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/montgomerycounty\/norristown\/dekalbstreet\/index.htm\">Dekalb Street<\/a> in Norristown over in Montgomery County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catching up on various Philadelphia-area stuff from the end of 2009 . . .
