{"id":346,"date":"2010-12-08T09:00:49","date_gmt":"2010-12-08T17:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/blog\/?p=346"},"modified":"2010-12-08T09:02:23","modified_gmt":"2010-12-08T17:02:23","slug":"boston-july-23-25-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/blog\/2010\/12\/08\/boston-july-23-25-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston, July 23-25, 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tagging along on one of Jen&#8217;s work-related trips . . .<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/07-24-10\/index.htm\">Waterfront\/Seaport District Bike Tour<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/07-24-10\/1007-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Waterfront\/Seaport District Bike Tour, South Boston, Boston, Massachusetts\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A RIB (rigid inflatable boat) Tour of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/bostonharbor\/index.htm\">Boston Harbor<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/bostonharbor\/07-24-10\/01907-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Flagship Adventures Boston Harbor Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) Tour, Boston Harbor, Boston, Massachusetts, July 24, 2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And a stop at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/bostonharbor\/spectacleisland\/index.htm\">Spectacle Island<\/a>, which is a landfill turned public park (something they&#8217;re trying to do at Fresh Kills in Staten Island):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/bostonharbor\/07-24-10\/09107-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"West Beach, Spectacle Island, Flagship Adventures Boston Harbor Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) Tour, Boston Harbor, Boston, Massachusetts, July 24, 2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/southboston\/evelynmoakleybridge\/index.htm\">Moakley Bridge<\/a> toward Downtown Boston and the North End, where we walked along <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/northend\/hanoverstreet\/index.htm\">Hanover Street<\/a> where the St. Joseph Feast was happening:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/northend\/hanoverstreet\/07-24-10\/2707-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Mike's Cannoli, St. Joseph Feast, Hanover Street, North End, Boston, Massachusetts, July 24, 2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/northend\/paulreveremall\/index.htm\">Paul Revere Mall<\/a> over to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/northend\/oldnorthchurch\/index.htm\">Old North Church<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/northend\/coppshillburyingground\/index.htm\">Copp&#8217;s Hill Burying Ground<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I read that the so-called &#8220;Skinny House&#8221; at 44 Hull Street across from Copp&#8217;s Hill Burying Ground is an example of a &#8220;spite house&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spite_house\">here&#8217;s a Wikipedia about the concept<\/a>):<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/northend\/coppshillburyingground\/1907-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Skinny House, 44 Hull Street, Across From Copp's Hill Burying Ground, North End, Boston, Massachusetts\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/haymarket\/index.htm\">Haymarket<\/a>. We later learned that the reason the prices are so cheap is wholesalers use the Friday-Saturday market to clear the decks in advance of getting new produce to sell:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/haymarket\/0407-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Haymarket, Downtown Boston, Boston, Massachusetts\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/haymarket\/1707-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Haymarket, Downtown Boston, Boston, Massachusetts\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked along the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/greenway\/index.htm\">Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway<\/a> toward the the temporary downtown location of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/jameshooklobster\/index.htm\">James Hook &#038; Company<\/a> (it has since moved into its new permanent home across the Fort Point Channel along the waterfront in South Boston) where we ate Lobster Roll:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/jameshooklobster\/0907-24-10.jpg\" alt=\"Lobster Roll, James Hook &amp; Co., Atlantic Avenue at Seaport Boulevard, Boston, Massachusetts, July 24, 2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We stayed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/southboston\/seaport\/index.htm\">Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center<\/a> in a room that overlooked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/southboston\/worldtradecenteravenue\/index.htm\">World Trade Center Avenue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The next day we were taken to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/southboston\/congressstreet\/index.htm\">Congress Street<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/beaconhill\/charlesstreet\/index.htm\">Charles Street<\/a> before heading back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/massachusetts\/boston\/downtown\/southstation\/index.htm\">South Station<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/amtrak\/train2259\/index.htm\">the train back to New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tagging along on one of Jen&#8217;s work-related trips . . .
