I love the quirky architecture of the Great Hall, which was originally built as a pavilion for the 1964-65 World&#8217;s Fair and which was designed by Wallace K. Harrison (who also designed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/manhattan\/midtown\/rockefellerapartments\/index.htm\">Rockefeller Apartments<\/a> on 54th Street, the Time-Life Building on Sixth Avenue and the master plan for Lincoln Center, and was the lead architect for the United Nations complex):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/04-02-11\/00204-02-11.jpg\" alt=\"New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the blocks up close:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/04-02-11\/09204-02-11.jpg\" alt=\"Great Hall, New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Mathematica exhibit (background <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mathematica:_A_World_of_Numbers..._and_Beyond\">here<\/a>) is vintage 1960s &#8212; and as quirky and retro as the dioramas at the Museum of Natural History. A really cool treasure:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/04-02-11\/01604-02-11.jpg\" alt=\"Mathematica Exhibit, New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/04-02-11\/02704-02-11.jpg\" alt=\"Cube of Lights Multiplication Machine, Mathematica Exhibit, New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also played miniature golf at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/rocketparkminigolf\/index.htm\">Rocket Park Mini Golf<\/a> course, next to the Mercury-Atlas and Gemini-Titan rockets that were also from the &#8217;64-&#8217;65 Fair:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/04-02-11\/06504-02-11.jpg\" alt=\"Rocket Park Mini Golf, New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At least one of us loved the cow eye dissection demonstration:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/hallofscience\/04-02-11\/08704-02-11.jpg\" alt=\"Cow Eye Dissection Demonstration, New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th Street, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Took the train back via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/queens\/corona\/103street-coronaplaza\/index.htm\">103 Street-Corona Plaza Station<\/a> (with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/queens\/corona\/leos\/index.htm\">a pit stop for a Mama&#8217;s Special<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Sunday we went to Williamsburg to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/brooklynflea\/index.htm\">Brooklyn Flea<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/brooklynflea\/04-03-11\/0104-03-11.jpg\" alt=\"Brooklyn Flea, East River Waterfront Between North 6th and North 7th Streets, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, April 3, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/brooklynflea\/04-03-11\/1004-03-11.jpg\" alt=\"Brooklyn Flea, East River Waterfront Between North 6th and North 7th Streets, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, April 3, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/brooklynflea\/04-03-11\/1304-03-11.jpg\" alt=\"Brooklyn Flea, East River Waterfront Between North 6th and North 7th Streets, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, April 3, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/brooklynflea\/04-03-11\/1404-03-11.jpg\" alt=\"Brooklyn Flea, East River Waterfront Between North 6th and North 7th Streets, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, April 3, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are some new pages for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/bushwickinletpark\/index.htm\">Bushwick Inlet Park<\/a> (&#8220;inlet&#8221; is a horrible sounding word), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/citistorage\/index.htm\">Citistorage Records Center<\/a> (which will have to move if plans for the waterfront move forward), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/williamsburg\/williamsburgedge\/index.htm\">Williamsburg Edge<\/a> (which doesn&#8217;t actually have any pictures of the buildings themselves . . . whoops!).<\/p>\n<p>On the way back, we walked by the furrier on Manhattan Avenue, which we had read is going to close soon:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/greenpoint\/685manhattanavenue\/0104-03-11.jpg\" alt=\"685 Manhattan Avenue, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, April 3, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And back over the Pulaski Bridge:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/greenpoint\/pulaski\/3204-03-11.jpg\" alt=\"Pulaski Bridge, Greenpoint, Brooklyn-Long Island City, Queens, April 3, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday we took the 7 train out to Corona . . . . . . to the New York Hall of Science, which I had never been to.
