I&#8217;m caught up to about May now . . .<\/p>\n<p>We saw the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.space.com\/11179-supermoon-photos-full-moon-2011-skywatchers.html\">Supermoon on March 19, 2011<\/a> from the Westfield New Jersey Transit station:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/newjersey\/unioncounty\/westfield\/westfieldstation\/0303-19-11.jpg\" alt=\"Westfield New Jersey Transit Station, Westfield, New Jersey, March 19, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/newjersey\/unioncounty\/westfield\/westfieldstation\/0403-19-11.jpg\" alt=\"Westfield New Jersey Transit Station, Westfield, New Jersey, March 19, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hard to believe how little snow there was this year, especially compared to last year:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/citywide\/curiosities\/winter\/4902-15-11.jpg\" alt=\"49th Avenue Between Vernon Boulevard and Jackson Avenue, Hunters Point, Long Island City, Queens, February 15, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One thing I&#8217;ll miss\/won&#8217;t miss about our old neighborhood is how many film shoots there were there:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/lic\/hunterspt\/sanremopizza\/0202-25-11.jpg\" alt=\"San Remo Pizza, 48-20 Vernon Boulevard, Hunters Point, Long Island City, Queens, February 25, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a sort of park\/playground in the old neighborhood that was created from a sliver of land leftover from the Queens-Midtown Tunnel called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/queens\/lic\/hunterspt\/oldhickorypark\/index.htm\">Old Hickory Park<\/a>, which the Parks Department seems to have disowned, at least judging by the fact that it&#8217;s somehow disappeared from their website. The name is a goof on Jackson Avenue, &#8220;Old Hickory&#8221; being Andrew Jackson&#8217;s nickname. Stupidly esoteric:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/lic\/hunterspt\/oldhickorypark\/0101-11-10.jpg\" alt=\"Old Hickory Park, Jackson Avenue and 51st Avenue, Hunters Point, Long Island City, Queens, January 11, 2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Robert Moses did a lot of neat things in the New York City area. He also oversaw a bunch of ridiculous orphan roads. The Prospect Expressway, for example:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/prospectexpressway\/0102-27-11.jpg\" alt=\"Prospect Expressway Near 10th Avenue, Brooklyn, February 27, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Blockbuster closed and some guys eventually took away the sign:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/astoria\/21-6131ststreet\/0104-14-11.jpg\" alt=\"21-61 31st Street, Astoria, Queens, April 14, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Back when we lived in Astoria we called this passage to the municipal parking lot &#8220;Deuce Alley&#8221; because it smelled like people took shits back there. Now it&#8217;s gussied up all fancy and such:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/astoria\/astoriawalk\/0104-10-11.jpg\" alt=\"Astoria Walk, Astoria, Queens, April 10, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I love the fact that there are public restrooms at the end of the subway lines. This is graffiti from the Ditmars Boulevard Station on the N\/Q line in Queens. The idea of having sex in one of these restrooms boggles my mind; I can&#8217;t think of a worse place to do it:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/astoria\/ditmarsblvdstation\/bathroom\/0312-11-10.jpg\" alt=\"Ditmars Boulevard Subway Station, Astoria, Queens, December 11, 2010\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the other end of the spectrum, Michael Bolton graffiti at Sweet Afton, which is where we celebrated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/slightest\/2011\/12\/17\/mortgage-interest-deduction-what-a-hell-of-a-function\/\">Kawama<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/astoria\/30-0934thstreet\/sweetafton\/0804-08-11.jpg\" alt=\"Sweet Afton, 30-09 34th Street, Astoria, Queens, April 8, 2011\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First part of 2011 . . .
