Here are some recent visits to zoos and aquariums along the East Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/fairmountpark\/philadelphiazoo\/index.htm\">Philadelphia Zoo<\/a> is the oldest in the U.S. They have a wonderful primate facility where you can get real close and gawk:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/fairmountpark\/philadelphiazoo\/10-18-13\/04910-18-13.jpg\" alt=\"Primate Reserve, Philadelphia Zoo, 34th Street and Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 18, 2013\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/pennsylvania\/philadelphia\/fairmountpark\/philadelphiazoo\/10-18-13\/05110-18-13.jpg\" alt=\"Primate Reserve, Philadelphia Zoo, 34th Street and Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 18, 2013\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Across the river in Camden is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/newjersey\/camdencounty\/camden\/aquarium\/index.htm\">Adventure Aquarium<\/a>, which used to be owned by the state but which was unloaded to a private entity about ten years ago. There&#8217;s a fun shark tunnel there:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/newjersey\/camdencounty\/camden\/aquarium\/07-03-14\/5407-03-14.jpg\" alt=\"Shark Tunnel, Adventure Aquarium, Camden, New Jersey, July 3, 2014\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/newjersey\/camdencounty\/camden\/aquarium\/07-03-14\/4007-03-14.jpg\" alt=\"Adventure Aquarium, Camden, New Jersey, July 3, 2014\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Sarasota, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/outoftown\/florida\/sarasota\/mote\/11-04-14\/index.htm\">Mote Marine Laboratory &#038; Aquarium<\/a> has a great manatee exhibit and a rarely-in-captivity dolphin (which is only there because it was injured and can&#8217;t be in the wild):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/florida\/sarasota\/mote\/11-04-14\/2211-04-14.jpg\" alt=\"Manatees, Mote Marine Laboratory &amp; Aquarium, Sarasota, Florida, November 4, 2014\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/outoftown\/florida\/sarasota\/mote\/11-04-14\/3211-04-14.jpg\" alt=\"Dolphin Lagoon, Mote Marine Laboratory &amp; Aquarium, Sarasota, Florida, November 4, 2014\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, there is the grand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/bronx\/bronxpark\/bronxzoo\/index.htm\">Bronx Zoo<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/bronx\/bronxpark\/bronxzoo\/06-02-13\/07306-02-13.jpg\" alt=\"Congo Gorilla Forest, Bronx Zoo, Bronx Park, The Bronx, June 2, 2013\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/bronx\/bronxpark\/bronxzoo\/06-02-13\/09906-02-13.jpg\" alt=\"Wild Asia Monorail, Bronx Zoo, Bronx Park, The Bronx, June 2, 2013\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/queenszoo\/09-21-13\/index.htm\">Queens Zoo<\/a> is a great little zoo &#8212; and I don&#8217;t think &#8220;little&#8221; is a pejorative: there&#8217;s something to the idea that a visit to the zoo doesn&#8217;t have to be this exhausting day-long slog. The Queens Zoo focuses on animals of the Americas, as well, which is a cool curatorial take. The Buckminster Fuller dome\/aviary is a hoot, too:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/queenszoo\/09-21-13\/1509-21-13.jpg\" alt=\"Aviary, Queens Zoo, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, September 21, 2013\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/bigmap\/queens\/fmcp\/queenszoo\/07-12-14\/0207-12-14.jpg\" alt=\"Andean Bear, Queens Zoo, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, July 12, 2014\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/statenisland\/central\/statenislandzoo\/index.htm\">Staten Island Zoo<\/a> makes for a fun trip to the island.
