Keep your City Council bill out of my circus, busybody:

“The Greatest Show on Earth” would be barred from showcasing elephants, zebras and big cats in the Big Apple under legislation proposed by a City Council member.

“It’s just wrong,” said Manhattan Councilwoman Rosie Mendez, who charges the exotic circus animals are abused and belong in the wild, not in captivity for entertainment.

Mendez’s bill — should it become law — would dramatically alter Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s annual performances at Madison Square Garden.

“I’m not sure people are aware of how badly the animals are treated,” Mendez said.

“It’s a long time coming,” said Sherry Ramsey, New York state director of the Humane Society. “It’s time to make ourselves more civilized in the way we entertain ourselves.”
