“As voters get to know Mayor de Blasio better, they like him less”:

A new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday found voters gave de Blasio his worst marks ever — with the percentage who disapprove of him rising from 40% to 44%. The number who approve of the mayor has held steady at 44% since May.

“This is bad for de Blasio,” said the Quinnipiac Poll’s assistant director, Maurice Carroll.

Two years away from the next election, 47% say the first-term mayor does not deserve reelection, while 41% say he should get a second term. Even among Democrats, only 53% say he deserves reelection; a majority of Republicans do not, and 56% of independents disapprove of a second term.

“Mayor de Blasio has to be concerned that his reelection numbers are narrowly negative,” said Carroll.

Wiley Norvell, a spokesman for the mayor, said de Blasio’s not worried about “political chatter.”
