That’s Too Bad Because Latin American Student Organization Functions Are Quite Exciting

This just in — Baruch is not a party school:

Nancy Ventura, a senior, said, “I’ve heard that Laso-Lay-Pride parties are good, but I’ve never been. I’m too focused on my studies.” And, like her, many students don’t attend social functions at the school at all, due to other priorities outside of school. Furthermore, in dorms it is easier for students to sneak things like alcohol and drugs in then it is to actually bring them to a college campus. Allassane Toure, a sophomore, agrees that parties are non-existent at Baruch. “Everyone has too much to do and there are too many rules since most parties end by 11 p.m.”

D’oh!

The problem with Eliot Spitzer’s plan to score political points by going after the rich and powerful is that they’re rich and powerful:

Two of Eliot Spitzer’s major enemies — former New York Stock Exchange honcho Ken Langone and billionaire Tom Golisano — huddled last week in Florida to discuss a multimillion-dollar effort to thwart the Democratic front-runner’s charge for the governor’s office, sources told The Post yesterday.

The sit-down between Langone and Golisano, who ran unsuccessfully for governor on the Independence Party line in 2002, took place in Naples, Fla., on Monday.

Sources familiar with the powwow said Langone wanted to feel out Golisano about launching a well-funded independent political group that could do things like an “issues-based” ad campaign.

Millions of dollars could be spent focusing critically on Spitzer’s record as state attorney general.

“He’s looking for about $5 million from Tom,” said one source, saying Langone is trying to see if he can cobble together a string of large donations. “[Golisano] is considering it.”

. . .

Langone has been targeting Spitzer’s run for governor for months. Langone, a former NYSE board member, is a co-defendant in a suit brought by Spitzer’s office against former stock exchange head Dick Grasso.

Langone has been actively raising money for Spitzer’s primary opponent, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, and according to sources is looking for any way possible to damage the attorney general during the campaign.

And Golisano is said to be angry with Spitzer for promising last year to bulldoze over him if Golisano decided to throw his hat in the ring for governor.

Growing Body Of Evdience Supports Positive Benefits Of Broken-Windows Drinking

A growing mountain of evidence supports the Broken-Windows Theory of Drinking — the latest piece comes after the owner of Scores (allegedly!) stabs one of his ex-employees:

The owner of the Scores strip-club empire traded boobs for a blade early yesterday — repeatedly slashing a former employee as a brawny accomplice held down the victim, police sources said.

Jiggle-joint poohbah Elliott Osher, 45, was charged with first-degree assault in the bloody knife attack, which took place down the street from a branch of the mammary mecca.

Sources said victim Bakir Balaban, who used to work at Scores, was standing outside the Home nightclub, on West 27th Street near 10th Avenue.

At about 12:30 a.m., he and several Scores employees, who were across the street at the back entrance of Scores Westside, began a loud back-and-forth shouting match.

Osher and two other men allegedly crossed the street and headed for Balaban.

“Osher and two others chased him down the street and he ran up to a yellow cab,” a police source said. A man who was with Osher grabbed the victim’s leg, holding him down as the strip-club bigshot slashed him, the source said.

Cops said Balaban, 39, suffered a stab wound to the back that punctured his lung, and slashes to the shoulder and left forearm.

There are many reputable strip clubs where its owners or management are not accused of such behavior — perhaps it’s time to change one’s allegiances. I’m kidding, Mom, just kidding . . .

I Never Trust Fortune Tellers Because They Never Tell Me Anything Good

Oh my goodness some people are this stupid:

For someone who’s supposed to be able to tell the future, Angelina Williams apparently never saw the cops coming.

The 22-year-old Queens fortune teller was busted Thursday on a charge of grand larceny — and then the detectives at the 114th Precinct socked her husband with a bribery rap, saying he tried to pay them to spring her.

Williams scammed a 28-year-old Astoria resident out of $11,000, police sources told The Post last night.

The woman wised up, but her awakening came only after she had handed over her life savings, the sources said.

The shady seer allegedly told her mark this month that supernatural forces had identified “a negative force in her stomach” and that the only way to get rid of it would be for her to give the fortune teller $11,000.

On the woman’s final visit, Williams explained that “the money — the root of all evil — would absorb all the evil energy” and added that she “was more than happy to get rid of it for her,” a police source said.

But after giving Williams payments of $2,500 and $8,500, the woman started thinking that — just maybe — she was being conned. So she finally called the police.

And when we say stupid, that also applies to people who try to bribe police officers:

Detectives arrested Williams in her second-floor Astoria apartment Thursday afternoon, and, while in custody, she called her husband, David Miller, also 22.

Miller allegedly arrived at the precinct late that night and proceeded to offer $600 to have his wife released on the spot.

The detectives played along just long enough to get the alleged bribe attempt on tape — then locked him up, too.

I’m Suing The City For Millions Only To Prevent This From Happening To Other Children

It’s never too late to accept responsibility for raising children you fathered. Especially when there’s cash to be made from suing the city:

The first time he ever saw his daughter, she was laid out in a coffin.

But now, the biological father of Nixzmary Brown wants control of her estate – which could reap millions from lawsuits against the city.

And relatives of the 7-year-old girl, whose stepdad allegedly beat her to death while her mom looked the other way, are outraged.

“I tried to see her. I swear to God I did, but I didn’t know where she was. Nobody knew where she was,” said Abdurrahman Mian, 36, who lost touch with the girl’s mother around the time of Nixzmary’s birth.

Mian, 36, plans to file papers in Brooklyn Surrogate’s Court within the next two months to be named administrator of her estate, his lawyer, Daniel Flanzig, said yesterday.

It’s never too late to do something for the children:

“If I had the chance, I would have taken her, but now she’s dead,” said Mian, a Brooklyn cabby. “I lost my daughter and all I feel is pain.”

But Nixzmary’s grandmother, Maria Gonzalez, is having none of it.

“I’m upset. He was never there for his child,” she said. “He never tried to reach out to her, and now he’s suing so he can have all the money to himself.”

This week, Gonzalez signed a petition seeking to be named estate administrator herself, said family spokeswoman Awilda Cordero. She is also seeking custody of Nixzmary’s five siblings.

The grandma, who lives in Puerto Rico, said she would use money from any potential lawsuit to “secure the kids’ future. It’s for their education. My main concern is the children.”

She accused Mian of trying to cash in on her granddaughter’s tragic life and death.

“He’s just doing this for selfish reasons,” she said.

Not true, Mian insisted.

“Everyone thinks I’m doing this for the money, but I’m doing it to prevent this from happening to other children,” he said. “I feel shame because I wasn’t there for her.”
