{"id":1425,"date":"2006-08-17T09:33:04","date_gmt":"2006-08-17T17:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2006\/08\/raise_high_the_rent_ceiling.html"},"modified":"2008-01-24T18:36:56","modified_gmt":"2008-01-24T23:36:56","slug":"raise_high_the","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/08\/raise_high_the.html","title":{"rendered":"Raise High The Rent Ceiling!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/local\/story\/444093p-374036c.html\">calling for an increase in the price limit for rent stabilized apartments<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Spitzer, a Democrat and the state attorney general, floated the idea in the Bronx during a morning of campaigning dedicated to outlining his affordable housing policy.<\/p>\n<p>Current law dictates that once the cost of a stabilized apartment exceeds $2,000 a month, the unit can be pulled from the rent regulation rolls and a market rate can be charged.<\/p>\n<p>The issue, Spitzer said, is &#8220;should there be an inflation escalator there so that $2,000 figure doesn&#8217;t become effectively a much lower threshold as years go by.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He did not say how high the threshold should be raised.
