{"id":1516,"date":"2006-09-06T09:54:25","date_gmt":"2006-09-06T17:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2006\/09\/see_the_thing_is_was.html"},"modified":"2008-01-24T17:57:38","modified_gmt":"2008-01-24T22:57:38","slug":"see_the_thing_i_1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/09\/see_the_thing_i_1.html","title":{"rendered":"See, The Thing Is Was . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you found it problematic getting from Manhattan to Brooklyn on the Lexington Avenue line yesterday, rest assured that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/local\/story\/449787p-378578c.html\">it was only this way because of a fraction of an inch<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Work crews involved in a major overhaul of the Wall St. station on the Lexington Ave. line installed temporary ceiling beams and panels too low &#8212; causing some trains to scrape against them.<\/p>\n<p>The Transit Authority slowed trains before finally halting service for four hours so repairs could be made.<\/p>\n<p>No. 4 train service was suspended in both directions, from Nevins St. to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, about 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rider safety was never in jeopardy because of this incident,&#8221; TA spokesman Charles Seaton said. &#8220;It was just a fraction of an inch too low.
