{"id":1702,"date":"2006-10-27T12:12:50","date_gmt":"2006-10-27T20:12:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2006\/10\/next_you_should_pass_a_resolution_condemning_the_practice.html"},"modified":"2006-10-27T12:12:50","modified_gmt":"2006-10-27T20:12:50","slug":"next_you_should","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/10\/next_you_should.html","title":{"rendered":"Next, You Should Pass A Resolution Condemning The Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using its limited resources wisely, the City Council confirms what anyone who has ever rented an apartment quickly realizes &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/local\/story\/465672p-391816c.html\">no-fee listings are a scam<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Beware online ads promising the perfect rental apartment with no broker fee &#8211; nearly one-third of them are lying, a City Council report revealed yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Council&#8217;s Oversight and Investigations Committee recently contacted 223 real estate agents who advertised &#8220;no fee&#8221; apartments on two popular online Web sites: craigslist.org and backpage.com.<\/p>\n<p>The investigators discovered that 31% of the so-called &#8220;no fee&#8221; apartments did, in fact, have broker fees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s no place in this city for deceptive and misleading sales practices,&#8221; said Councilman Eric Gioia (D-Queens), the committee&#8217;s chairman, during a news conference at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to make sure that &#8212; however it is that you&#8217;re searching for an apartment &#8212; the deal you&#8217;re getting is an honest one,&#8221; Gioia said.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Using its limited resources wisely, the City Council confirms what anyone who has ever rented an apartment quickly realizes &#8212; no-fee listings are a scam: Beware online ads promising the perfect rental apartment with no broker fee &#8211; nearly one-third of them are lying, a City Council report revealed yesterday.
