{"id":2043,"date":"2007-01-24T10:06:04","date_gmt":"2007-01-24T18:06:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2007\/01\/the_state_of_the_union_is_strong.html"},"modified":"2007-01-24T10:06:04","modified_gmt":"2007-01-24T18:06:04","slug":"the_state_of_th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2007\/01\/the_state_of_th.html","title":{"rendered":"The State Of The Union Is Strong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>That was fast! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2007\/01\/man_of_the_year.html\">Man of the year<\/a> Wesley Autrey <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silive.com\/news\/advance\/index.ssf?\/base\/news\/1169643610122280.xml&#038;coll=1\">makes it into President Bush&#8217;s State of the Union address<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>One thing everyone at the State of the Union address could agree on applauding was President Bush&#8217;s introduction of Wesley Autrey, the New Yorker who saved the life of a stranger in a Harlem subway station.<\/p>\n<p>Autrey was commended in Bush&#8217;s speech yesterday for jumping onto the tracks when he saw the man fall into the path of a train, pulling him out of harm&#8217;s way and holding him until the train passed above their heads.<\/p>\n<p>Bush said: There is something wonderful about a country that produces a brave and humble man like Wesley Autrey, who attended the speech with his daughters.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/01\/24\/washington\/24scene.html?ex=1327294800&#038;en=efdf8c73d6159640&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\">speaking of which<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The chamber erupted most unanimously and loudly for Wesley Autrey, the man who leapt into the tracks of a New York subway to save a fellow passenger. (The only ones not clapping, it appeared, were Mr. Autrey&#8217;s two young daughters, who napped beside him in their bubblegum-colored dresses.)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>That was fast!
