{"id":2999,"date":"2007-12-14T07:55:11","date_gmt":"2007-12-14T15:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2007\/12\/are_people_in_brooklyn_really_that_lazy.html"},"modified":"2007-12-14T07:55:11","modified_gmt":"2007-12-14T15:55:11","slug":"are_people_in_b","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2007\/12\/are_people_in_b.html","title":{"rendered":"Are People In Brooklyn Really That Lazy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sure, I&#8217;d walk all the way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/bigmap\/brooklyn\/smithstreet\/index.htm\">Smith Street<\/a> but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/stories\/30\/49\/30_49smifth.html\">why bother when Fifth Avenue is just as close<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Yes, you are seeing double.<\/p>\n<p>Smith Street and Fifth Avenue are becoming mirror images of one another &#8212; thanks to at least half a dozen entrepreneurs opening shops on both streets.<\/p>\n<p>Call it &#8220;Smifth Avenue.&#8221; Lucia, Something Else, Soula and Flirt, plus chains like Brooklyn Industries and Area Kids, have staked a claim on both streets.<\/p>\n<p>Owners say they&#8217;re making life easier for shoppers, not trying to erase Brooklyn&#8217;s long-standing neighborhood distinctions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We noticed that we had significant numbers of customers who shop on Smith Street, but live in Park Slope and Prospect Heights,&#8221; said Soula owner Rick Lee.<\/p>\n<p>In almost all cases, shop owners opened their first outlet on Smith Street before expanding to Fifth Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was an attitude of &#8216;If we were able to do it on Smith, now we&#8217;re able to do it on Fifth,'&#8221; said Samantha Delman Caserta, the owner of 3Rliving, a Fifth Avenue shop, and head of the Fifth Avenue Merchants Association.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sure, I&#8217;d walk all the way to Smith Street but why bother when Fifth Avenue is just as close: Yes, you are seeing double.
