{"id":3184,"date":"2008-03-02T07:49:22","date_gmt":"2008-03-02T12:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/03\/look_ma_no_mixing_meat_and_milk.html"},"modified":"2008-03-02T07:49:22","modified_gmt":"2008-03-02T12:49:22","slug":"look_ma_no_mixing_meat_and_milk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/03\/look_ma_no_mixing_meat_and_milk.html","title":{"rendered":"Look Ma, No Mixing Meat And Milk!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sure, keep worrying about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/seven\/03022008\/news\/regionalnews\/jews_have_a_beef_100070.htm\">&#8220;appearances&#8221;<\/a>  . . . this as it takes me 45 minutes to use an elevator that stops at every floor on a Saturday:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Popular Upper East Side restaurant Talia&#8217;s Steakhouse recently began cooking up what is believed to be the city&#8217;s first kosher cheeseburger &#8212; a real-beef patty topped with tofu cheese in American or mozzarella flavor.<\/p>\n<p>The formerly forbidden food is now being served as a &#8220;Kosher Parve Cheeseburger&#8221; at the popular glatt kosher eatery, which does not serve meat and dairy together, in accordance with Jewish law.<\/p>\n<p>While many are excited to give the taboo take-out a taste, others are kvetching that the burger is bad news.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would never entertain the thought of eating cheese &#8212; real or fake &#8212; with meat,&#8221; comedian Jackie Mason, who keeps kosher, told The Post. &#8220;It makes me nauseous just thinking about it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trying to skirt tradition is what irks others, also.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jewish law is very concerned for appearances,&#8221; said Rabbi Basil Herring, the executive vice president of the Rabbinical Council of America. &#8220;Not only should you always do the right thing, but it should be seen as the right thing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any Jew who keeps kosher knows a cheeseburger is not permissible.
