Beautiful weather. Fun to watch the runners. I can&#8217;t believe I would ever be able to do such a thing in my lifetime, so these pictures will have to suffice. (I cheered them on, which felt participatory enough &#8212; to that point, WNBC TV interviewed a woman from New Jersey who was watching the marathon in person for the first time, inquiring about her strategy as if she were running!)<\/p>\n<p>The Times&#8217; coverage of the NYC Marathon is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/indexes\/2004\/11\/08\/sports\/sportsspecial\/index.html\">here<\/a> (I think that&#8217;s a permalink, but I&#8217;m not sure). Some Times-ish color pieces, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2004\/11\/08\/sports\/sportsspecial\/08family.html?ex=1257656400&#038;en=bcc6b088286193ad&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland\">this one<\/a>, with a quote from a police officer at the finish line that sums it up for me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>As the runners crossed the line, often with pained expressions, one rather well-fed police officer looked on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nice day to run,&#8221; it was mentioned to him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nice day to watch,&#8221; he replied.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was the annual New York City Marathon.
