{"id":3970,"date":"2008-11-14T11:19:29","date_gmt":"2008-11-14T16:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/?p=3970"},"modified":"2008-11-14T11:19:29","modified_gmt":"2008-11-14T16:19:29","slug":"the_borough_presidents_office_does_what_exactly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/11\/the_borough_presidents_office_does_what_exactly.html","title":{"rendered":"The Borough President&#8217;s Office Does What Exactly?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not a sarcastic question &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/ny_local\/queens\/2008\/11\/13\/2008-11-13_budget_slashing_cuts_to_the_bone_says_qu.html\">I&#8217;m genuinely curious<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Mayor Bloomberg&#8217;s budget axe is taking another big chunk out of Queens Borough President Helen Marshall&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>As the city&#8217;s economy continues to sink, Bloomberg has ordered Marshall to cut $117,000 and a minimum of two jobs from her $4.6 million payroll by the end of this fiscal year, which ends on June 30.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s on top of $1.4 million City Hall lopped off Marshall&#8217;s budget at the start of the fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>Marshall called the cuts &#8220;devastating&#8221; and told the Daily News she will likely have to pink-slip seven of her 57 staffers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It cuts to the bone,&#8221; she said of the mid-year budget revisions, announced last week.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg&#8217;s edict also forces Marshall to lose $186,000 from her budget for the upcoming fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>Criticized in the press recently for having a $63,000-a-year chauffeur, Marshall is reeling at the thought of swallowing the bitter budget pill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t really take any more cuts.
