Here&#8217;s what we know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2007\/12\/avella_yourself.html\">obsessed with animals<\/a>, perhaps to the exclusion of other, uh, more pressing issues<\/li>\n<li>His public profile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2007\/12\/hot_dog_vendor.html\">sometimes rises to a level of grandstanding<\/a>, but perhaps not overly so . . .<\/li>\n<li>. . . in part because the grandstanding is often principled, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/11\/if_offered_i_wo.html\">or at least principled sounding<\/a><\/li>\n<li>That said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/06\/didnt_you_pay_any_attention_to_what_just_happened_in_chicago.html\">anyone who is against foie gras is kind of weird<\/a>, and it would be stupid to have that become part of the Avella bully pulpit<\/li>\n<li>And yet . . . <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/03\/unfortunately_t.html\">there&#8217;s something I like about someone who is willing to crack down on unwanted fliers and menus<\/a>; that&#8217;s problem solving!<\/li>\n<li>And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/04\/a_solid_win_for_congestion_pricing.html\">he does seem willing to take on the mayor when it&#8217;s appropriate<\/a> . . .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>OK.  I&#8217;m sold.  Tony Avella for Mayor.  Go Tony, go!  (But note that this is not a mandate! If you try to take away our foie gras, know that we may have to pull <a href=\"http:\/\/gawker.com\/tag\/videuhoh\/?i=5023609&#038;t=jesse-jackson-i-wanna-cut-obamas-nuts-off\">a Jesse Jackson<\/a> on your ass.) (And a note to other potential candidates: following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/10\/you_know_what.html\">the mayor&#8217;s recent behavior<\/a>, there are probably a lot of us who can become cheap dates.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So if it&#8217;s just Tony Avella running against Bloomberg, maybe we should take a closer look at the Councilmember.
