{"id":4070,"date":"2008-12-14T08:36:46","date_gmt":"2008-12-14T13:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/?p=4070"},"modified":"2008-12-14T08:36:46","modified_gmt":"2008-12-14T13:36:46","slug":"tough_crowd-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2008\/12\/tough_crowd-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Tough Crowd . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh sure, <em>now<\/em> the world acts like it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/money\/2008\/12\/14\/2008-12-14_arnold_and_joan_sinkin_open_up_about_bei.html\">suddenly uncool to bilk investors out of billions<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>For a half-century, Arnold and Joan Sinkin worked hard to raise their four kids, put a roof over their heads and build up a nice nest egg for retirement.<\/p>\n<p>The Brooklyn-born couple moved out to Long Island and then down to Florida, where they planned to spend their golden years living off their nearly $1 million life savings.<\/p>\n<p>That all came crashing down this past week when Wall Street legend Bernie Madoff&#8217;s empire of fraud collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I put my kids through college, made four weddings, did everything to put away some money,&#8221; said Arnold Sinkin, 76, a retired carpet salesman, from the couple&#8217;s condo in Boynton Beach, Fla. &#8220;Two days ago, it was all wiped out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The couple lost about 85% of their life savings and their retirement dreams are gone with the cash.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh sure, now the world acts like it&#8217;s suddenly uncool to bilk investors out of billions: For a half-century, Arnold and Joan Sinkin worked hard to raise their four kids, put a roof over their heads and build up a nice nest egg for retirement.
