{"id":4325,"date":"2009-01-17T09:37:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-17T14:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/?p=4325"},"modified":"2009-01-17T09:37:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-17T14:37:00","slug":"its_never_too_early_to_say_i_told_you_so","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2009\/01\/its_never_too_early_to_say_i_told_you_so.html","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Never Too Early To Say I Told You So"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Especially when there is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/2009\/01\/17\/2009-01-17_500g_radar_device_couldve_prevented_cras.html\">money to be made and special interests that can be goosed<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>State-of-the-art bird radar that costs just $500,000 to install at airports could have prevented the US Airways crash, the system&#8217;s maker said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For the cost of this one accident, I could put this system in every major U.S. airport,&#8221; said Gary Andrews of radarmaker De-Tect Inc.<\/p>\n<p>The bird-detection radar system is in place at six U.S. Air Force bases and is being installed at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.<\/p>\n<p>It could have alerted Flight 1549 pilot Chesley Sullenberger that dangerous flocks of geese were in his flight path.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nothing is foolproof, but it would have likely spotted the geese,&#8221; Andrews said. &#8220;The pilot could have tried to avoid the flock, or they could have told him to hold on the ground.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Radar or no, the tug-of-war between planes and birds is unlikely to end anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p>Experts say they have tried everything from scarecrows to fireworks.
