{"id":551,"date":"2005-12-21T10:43:47","date_gmt":"2005-12-21T18:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2005\/12\/complete_odds.html"},"modified":"2005-12-21T10:43:47","modified_gmt":"2005-12-21T18:43:47","slug":"complete_odds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2005\/12\/complete_odds.html","title":{"rendered":"Complete Odds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Times&#8217; Sewell Chan moves forward reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/12\/21\/nyregion\/nyregionspecial3\/21negotiation.html?ex=1292821200&#038;en=df4f473e9b1282e1&#038;ei=5090&#038;partner=rssuserland&#038;emc=rss\">the local and its parent organization are at &#8220;complete odds&#8221; with each other<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The transit workers&#8217; union, despite taking the extraordinary step of calling its first strike in 25 years, has revealed itself over the last 48 hours to be an organization wrestling with considerable discord &#8212; a local union, in fact, that is at complete odds with its larger parent organization.<\/p>\n<p>The union&#8217;s vote to strike, made at 1:15 a.m. yesterday in a closed-door session of the executive board, was opposed by three of seven vice presidents of the union, Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union. A fourth abstained.<\/p>\n<p>And yesterday, merely hours into the paralyzing job action, Michael T. O&#8217;Brien, the international president of the parent union, the Transport Workers Union of America, urged the city&#8217;s transit workers to abandon the strike and return to work immediately.
