{"id":650,"date":"2006-02-01T08:14:57","date_gmt":"2006-02-01T16:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2006\/02\/no_ticket_quotas_eh.html"},"modified":"2006-02-01T08:14:57","modified_gmt":"2006-02-01T16:14:57","slug":"no_ticket_quota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/no_ticket_quota.html","title":{"rendered":"No Ticket Quotas, Eh?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After reporting on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/post_headline_o.html\">a questionable shopping-bag-on-seat infraction<\/a>, the Post notes that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/news\/regionalnews\/62710.htm\">the City plans to boost its general fund by hiring more revenue-producing traffic agents<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>So there are no ticket quotas, huh?<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD disclosed plans yesterday to hire 117 new traffic agents who are supposed to bring in $17.4 million for the city&#8217;s $55.5 billion budget for fiscal year 2007, which starts July 1.<\/p>\n<p>Cops are also going to step up towing activity to generate another $3.7 million.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is not good news for New Yorkers, in light of recent revelations about so-called &#8216;performance measures,'&#8221; said City Councilman John Liu, who chairs the Transportation Committee. &#8220;This is not going to sit well with New Yorkers. We are looking at this issue very carefully.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD defended the plan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s hardly a blitz,&#8221; said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne, &#8220;considering the fact that the number of tickets issued in the city declined to 9.2 million in [fiscal year] 2005, compared to 9.7 million the year before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There are now 2,600 traffic agents.
