{"id":705,"date":"2006-02-16T10:07:06","date_gmt":"2006-02-16T18:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2006\/02\/its_simple_keep_the_parks_clean_pick_up_the_trash_and_make_sure_the_sidewalks_are_voltage_free.html"},"modified":"2006-02-16T10:07:06","modified_gmt":"2006-02-16T18:07:06","slug":"its_simple_keep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/its_simple_keep.html","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Simple: Keep The Parks Clean, Pick Up The Trash And Make Sure The Sidewalks Are Voltage Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The citizens of this city don&#8217;t expect much from the government, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/local\/story\/391782p-332280c.html\">the expectation that sidewalks will remain unelectrified seems entirely reasonable and not too much to ask<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>A dog was killed yesterday in front of his owner when he padded across an electrified sidewalk in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>The 80-pound mixed-breed received a fatal jolt at about noon on Third Ave. and Third St. in Park Slope.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The owners are devastated,&#8221; said Dr. Margaret Gordon, who tried to save the pooch at the Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital. &#8220;It&#8217;s really, really tragic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The owner said the dog suddenly jumped and collapsed after walking on a section of sidewalk where a street light had been removed.<\/p>\n<p>A medic from an animal hospital rushed to the scene to treat the injured pooch and felt a surge in the sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>Con Ed officials traced the stray voltage to the corroding wires of the old city street lamp.
