As Fickle As The Weather

Though depending on the weather for a poll boost seems like a bad idea:

A Quinnipiac University poll out Monday found Bloomberg’s feeble approval rating jumped 11 points from a July survey to 54% — his highest score since the bungled December blizzard.

Of The Three Women That Got Pregnant In Chelsea Back In 2009, Two Opted To Abort

I know the neighborhood’s makeup is not what it once was, but some hard numbers might add some context:

The tony neighborhood of Chelsea has the highest abortion rate in the city, according to data released yesterday.

While the city’s stubbornly high abortion rate was 41%, records show about 67% of all pregnancies were terminated in Chelsea.

Proving Yet Again That People In New York Are Just As Susceptible To Twilight Hysteria As Everyone Else In This Country

I get “Isabella,” but “Michael”? Really?:

Bars By Zip Code

Helpful when you want to impress visitors with intriguing facts about the city:

A Post analysis of state liquor licenses by ZIP code has zeroed in on the booziest blocks, with the East Village’s 10003 rising to the top of the suds-soaked list.

There were 474 bars, restaurants and corner stores licensed to sell hooch in the hood, beating out Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

For further research: Is this the highest concentration of bars in the country? What about per capita? Need more details to pad out the walking tour!

Proving Yet Again That If You Lie Down With Bicyclists, You’ll Wake Up With Anemic Census Figures

See, you can’t be surprised — or shocked! — to learn that “the hottest borough in which to live, work and play grew only a small percentage in the past decade” when the image in popular culture is that Brooklyn is a place where childless 30- and 40-somethings while away Thursday afternoons playing kickball at McCarren Park:

The film, which won the award for Best New York Narrative at the Tribeca Film Festival 2010, portrays New York City’s largest borough as a land where aimless thirtysomethings move to avoid adulthood.

“The idea was to make a narrative film that felt like a documentary about the demise of a Brooklyn couple,” says the 37-year-old [director Dana Adam] Shapiro, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the documentary “Murderball.” “The male character rides his bike everywhere — which is a very Brooklyn thing to do — and finds being stationary scary. He doesn’t want to settle down, and I think a lot of people will relate to that.”
