Early On, Mayor Prioritizing Job Creation

Also, an unprecedented push for younger voices in the mayor’s inner circle:

Richard Buery, who currently runs the Children’s Aid Society, will serve as the new Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiates — a newly-created position.

Mr. Buery’s work will focus on implementing the mayor’s signature pre-K program as well as assembling a new “Children’s Cabinet.”

Taken With A Giant Shed Of Road Salt

The administration that somehow even makes snowstorms “progressive”:

Although the weather has been challenging, it has also let Mr. de Blasio portray himself as an everyman: He has been repeatedly photographed shoveling snow outside his home in Brooklyn.

On Monday, the mayor, who has a reputation for sleeping late, noted that he had been outside shoveling by 6:30 a.m., and again at 7:30.

A Progressive Solution To City Services

Redistributive refuse collection:

Upper East Siders still steamed about last week’s botched snow removal unleashed a new torrent of outrage Monday over the massive mounds of trash piling up on sidewalks.

Dozens of piles of plastic bags stuffed with refuse marred the posh neighborhood, despite official claims that “around-the- clock” efforts had cleared away all of the city’s “backlogged material.”

[. . .]

De Blasio spokeswoman Marti Adams said sanit crews were “rapidly working” to collect accumulated rubbish, adding, “Any allegations that neighborhoods were chosen over others for trash removal are totally absurd.”

The Mayor’s Big Pre-2017 Appointment Push

Now that the thought experiments are out of the way, it’s time to get down to the business of actually running the city:

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he plans to make a “flurry” of appointments next week as his transition efforts begin to wind down nearly a month after taking office.

Speaking to reporters after giving an award at the Daily News‘ annual Hometown Heroes event this morning, Mr. de Blasio did his best to assure that his historically slow appointment process is in fact right on track.

Inside The Mayor’s Secret Plan To Get Illegal Guns Off The Street

Stop them for jaywalking:

De Blasio campaigned on a “Vision Zero” pledge to try to eliminate all traffic deaths, and he ordered immediate measures after 11 people were killed, seven of them pedestrians, on city streets in the first two weeks of the year.

[. . .]

Some senior cops say demanding a crackdown on something like jaywalking is out of synch with the public, since almost all New Yorkers do it occasionally.

“It’s retarded,” one said. “People are going to jaywalk, and when they get stopped, they’re going to get combative.

“This is going to turn out badly,” he added. “It’s going to be like [former Commissioner] Ray Kelly’s stop-and-frisk.”
