Maybe She Was Stuck At The Office Trying To Come Up With Ways To Make PlowNYC More Progressive?

Now we’ll have to wait to find out what the First Lady Mayor thinks of immigration reform:

First Lady Chirlane McCray was an hour late Wednesday to her first major postinaugural speaking engagement.

McCray was slated to participate in an interactive town-hall forum at Brooklyn’s Christian Cultural Center focusing on the impact of immigration policies on African-Americans.

Instead, she opened the event and spoke for only 10 minutes before leaving.

[ . . . ]

McCray’s speech was preceded by a video of the de Blasio kids, Dante and Chiara, talking about being third-generation Americans; McCray’s grandparents were from Barbados.

On Second Thought, Maybe I Would Rather My Mayor Just Gave Some Neighborhood Kid Five Or Ten Bucks . . .

OK, OK, we get it — tale of two cities, everyman — enough with the snow shovel photo-ops:

Mayor Bill de Blasio, still ensconced in his Park Slope home, again shoveled his sidewalk for the cameras this morning.

[. . .]

“Remember, use your legs, use your knees,” he advised the public. “Do not use your back. Get low, use your knees, that’s the best way to shovel properly.”

As Letitia James Once Said, Elections Have Consequences

It was an effective primary message, until it made people crazy:

Huge swaths of the city’s wealthiest neighborhood had been not been plowed by early Tuesday evening, leaving 1-percenters out in the cold, according to the city’s own map of snow-plower activity.

“He is trying to get us back. He is very divisive and political,” said [a] writer and life-long Upper East Side mom [ . . .] of Mayor de Blasio.

“By not plowing the Upper East Side, he is saying, ‘I’m not one of them.’ But we have everyone in this area on the Upper East Side. We have rich people, middle class people, and housing projects. We have it all.”

The Mayor’s Signature Plan To Soak The Fucking Rich

And if he doesn’t need the revenue stream for pre-K, don’t worry because he’ll find something to do with it:

Mayor Bill de Blasio today doubled down on his signature plan to tax the rich to fund universal pre-K, even as Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to roll out an alternative funding stream in his annual budget address this afternoon.

Taking questions after a press conference announcing two new appointments, Mr. de Blasio said he would continue to push for his tax increase, even if the governor provides all the money the mayor says he needs through an alternate funding stream.

[. . .]

“We think it’s fair and appropriate to ask those in New York City who’ve done a little to pay a little more,” he said, arguing that added money could be used for other causes. “We have a revenue source available that is reliable and we believe it is a matter of the rights of this city … that we should be able to proceed with that to create the programs that people in this city voted for and do it on a reliable basis.”

House Of Cards?

The “better titles and salaries” part is definitely the best aspect:

More than a dozen mayoral staffers have been awaiting job placements for three weeks — and have so little to do that they’re watching Netflix and playing cards while on the government payroll, The Post has learned.

The staffers, ranging from entry-level employees to managers and deputy advisers — and who worked for Mayor de Blasio when he was the city’s public advocate — had been promised better titles and salaries in the new administration, according to a source.

But since de Blasio took office on Jan. 2, they’ve been “twiddling their thumbs” in a third-floor office at 253 Broadway across from City Hall watching movies, playing cards, learning a second language or going on afternoon shopping sprees downtown.

The bored staffers have even been betting on how late the persistently tardy mayor will be at his press conferences.

Executive experience is definitely overrated.
