The Real Reason The City Is Building All Those Bike Lanes . . .

Easy collars and money in the coffers:

Cops are slapping cyclists with nearly double the number of traffic tickets per month in the wake of a “crackdown” on rogue bikers in Brooklyn.

Officers wrote at least 695 bicycle summonses in the borough during the month of February — compared to just 375 in the same period last year — with cops citing “pedestrian safety” as the impetus for the booming ticket blitz.

. . .

Early in the ticket blitz, for example, one man got three tickets from a single incident on Union Avenue near S. Third Street in Williamsburg: One for riding on the sidewalk, another for riding against traffic — and the last for mouthing off to the officer who stopped him in the first place.

God Rest Her Soul, Speed Her To Heaven, Use Her Prescription For More Drugs Before Anyone Realizes She’s Gone

The Advance continues its investigation into prescription drug abuse on the Island, highlighting the case of a son and daughter-in-law who used their dead mother to score more oxycodone:

He was so desperate to score prescription drugs that he and his wife had a script written out in his sick mother’s name — two weeks after she died, prosecutors allege.

And Now Everyone Thinks You’re Racist

Supposedly tried-and-true tactics for avoiding jury duty — claiming you’re racist and that you never trust the cops, for example — can sometimes backfire, leading to even more jury duty, as well as public scorn in the Post:

An incensed federal judge sentenced a racist Brooklyn woman to indefinite jury duty on Tuesday after she trashed the NYPD and minorities.

“This is an outrage, and so are you!” Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis told the woman, holding up her bile-filled juror questionnaire.

. . .

It is not unheard of for people to try to get out of jury service by making ridiculous statements concerning their views.

It was unclear Tuesday whether that was this woman’s motive.

And if it was, it didn’t work.

Indeed, the woman was going to be seeing a lot of Brooklyn Federal Court.

“She’s coming back [today], Thursday and Friday — and until the future, when I am ready to dismiss her,” Garaufis said.

Third Term Malaise Spreads: City Council Now Recycling Crappy Ideas From San Francisco

Queens City Councilman Leroy Comrie, who tried banning the N-word back in 2007 has proposed more vital legislation, this time a happy meal ban (something even Gavin Newsom vetoed):

Councilman Leroy Comrie announced today his plan to introduce legislation that would ban toys from being included in unhealthy meals at fast food restaurants.

Or you could put it this way — Overweight city councilman pushes bill to ban toys in fast food meals to promote healthy eating:

“We are not trying to hurt anyone’s bottom line. We are trying to help people’s bottoms,” Comrie said Tuesday.

Councilman, I’d prefer you’d stop thinking about my child’s bottom . . .

KIT! Call Me Over The Summer! Stay Sweet!

Who does this guy think he is, the president? Wait, don’t answer that:

On his first morning as national champion, Bronx-born Kemba Walker awoke to a congratulatory call from Mayor Bloomberg.

The high-scoring Connecticut guard was offered a free ticket Tuesday to a Knicks game — and some free advice in the surprise conversation with the mayor of his hometown.

“It was great,” Walker told the Daily News on the team bus bound for the airport in Houston. “He called and congratulated me.

“He told me that whenever it’s time to take it to the next level that I should try to stay the same.”
