More Choices, Too

Wayne Barrett wades into the latest on the mayor’s charter commission, and finds that the mayor apparently isn’t as keen on a high-minded debate on the pros and cons of term limits as he once was. A principled man for these tough times. Meanwhile, salt shakers and 34th Street curse their bad luck.

Ah well, what do you do?

But Why Are Cleats Traef?

Maybe Barry Levinson needs a new project to work on, in which case he can explain it:

At a nearby table, Kosher League alum Ezra Friedman, 17, nodded in agreement with Mr. Williams’ view that children are often more competitive than their parents, willing to play no matter what.

“In one game, we had to play without shoes, because cleats were not allowed,” said Friedman, who claims he hit a game-winning home run while his mother ran home to get shoes.

Or maybe I’m misreading it . . . with Kosher rules you can never tell. (But what a solid image to start a script with!) (We could call it Kosher Cleats!)

That magical key that the Daily News revealed opens every subway gate in the system apparently also opens EMS stations across the city:

The key also opens 14 of the city’s 35 Emergency Medical Service stations — potentially exposing them to thieves looking for equipment and controlled drugs such as morphine, a union leader warned.

And then there’s Gramercy Park . . .

Trees: The Silent Killer

And like an invasion of B-movie zombies, they die, lay in wait, and strike when you least expect it:

A Queens tree branch that neighbors had complained was rotten came crashing down on power lines Thursday, sparking a stubborn blaze that destroyed a church, witnesses said.

The Deeper Life Christian Fellowship Church on 111th St. in Richmond Hill caught fire when the limb collapsed onto the wires and a car.

“It caused a chain reaction,” said a neighborhood resident who gave her name only as Adel. “It kept popping like a firecracker,” she said. “It was a crackling of electricity.”

Taking The Business Concept Of The “Nationwide Search” To The Next Level

I didn’t realize that’s how it worked in the Bloomberg era:

Stephen Goldsmith, a former Indianapolis mayor and Manhattan Institute bigwig, is expected to replace outgoing Deputy Mayor Ed Skyler — a move that could position the City Hall newcomer to run for the top job down the road.

Maybe Harold Ford, Jr. was on to something after all.
