We Are All Wesley Autrey Now

One day this won’t turn out so well and some family member will be pissed that their daughter or son went down there to save someone:

A brave Brooklyn adman looked more like Superman when he jumped in front of an oncoming subway train to rescue an 18-year-old fashion student who fainted and fell unconscious onto the tracks.

Also, people please, please, please eat breakfast before you get on the subway.

Technology Rules!

Over half a billion dollars to prevent municipal waste . . . uh, yeah:

When development of CityTime began in 1998, officials promised it would use new-age hand scanners and other technology to eliminate abuse of employee timecards by thousands of workers.

The system has instead turned into an uncontrolled gravy train for high-paid consultants and a boondoggle for taxpayers.

CityTime “has a long history of extraordinary increases, rising from $68 million to $722 million over 10 years,” Liu’s director of contract administration, John Goddard, wrote on Feb. 9 in notifying Bloomberg aides of his rejection of the new contract for Spherion Inc.

Well Then That Contribution Was Well Worth It . . .

Street money? Nah — just a house in Forest Hills:

When Mayor Bloomberg funneled $750,000 to a longtime Queens ally last fall, he thought he was buying a citywide poll watching operation.

He may have paid for a house in Forest Hills Gardens, too.

Post-Manufacturing Cities Fall Back On What They Do Best: Spinning Yarns About Organized Crime

First the police brutality tour, now this:

Starting next month, John (Cha Cha) Ciarcia hopes to bring some of the city’s old gangland history back to life with a new bus tour.

“Everybody loves the mob,” said Ciarcia, a restaurateur, radio host and actor who had a bit part in “The Sopranos.” “We’d like to give them a taste of history in the mob.”

The Yankees Hate Your Children

Someone should see if obesity rates have soared — literally soared! — around the area where no new parks have been built:

Three and a half years after Mayor Bloomberg closed huge portions of Mullaly and Macombs Dam parks to make way for the Yankees new $1.5 billion stadium, the replacement ballfields the city promised are nowhere to be seen.

. . .

Shea Stadium, in case anyone has forgotten, came tumbling down in fewer than eight months. It was leveled quickly because the Mets needed the land for parking.

Location Scout: New Yankee Stadium.
