Because They Can Do That, Right?

I’ll tell you what though, the only thing cooler would have been if he fixed the ticket instead:

A city detective stepped up to pay the parking ticket received by a man making a holiday donation to a family in need on Staten Island.

The cop, who asked not to be named, said he wanted to help out after reading in the Daily News that [a good Samaritan] was slapped with a $60 ticket while dropping off a truckload of baby supplies for [an unemployed man] — even though both men insist the traffic agent told them it was OK to stop and unload.

Besides offering to pay the ticket, he got two cases of diapers donated by his local Toys R Us and also bought a gift certificate for [the man] and his four-month-old son.

“I was like, ‘oh man, unbelievable,'” the detective said. “I thought it was horrible.

“I don’t want to beat up on the traffic agent, the traffic agent’s got a job to do; but we get a bad rap as it is. Maybe the traffic agent had a directive to give out summonses in that particular area,” he said.

“I’d like to make it kind of right…There’s a lot of good cops out there. I want people to realize that.”

He Is All Jack Donaghy Now

If I didn’t believe it was probably a bad idea to support someone who has trouble not yelling at flight attendants and leaving threatening answering machine messages for his children, I think I’d totally vote for him:

“The people running for mayor — I know this is terrible — I look at them and I say I don’t see myself in that crowd,” he added.

“They’re like a guy on a date that can’t wait; you can just tell he can’t wait to get his hand up your blouse before even the lights go out in the theater. They’re all just so horny for it. Horny for their own ascension.”

And huge bonus points for publicly slagging one of the best television shows of our generation:

“I’ve got a good job,” he said. “Is it the most creative thing in the world? Am I doing ‘The Insider’ with Michael Mann? Am I doing some edgy, like, finely chiseled social drama? No. Am I doing ‘To Kill a Mockingbird?’ No. I’m doing a sitcom. But we have fun, and it’s a family.”

The Mad Rush To Fulfill End-Of-Year “Productivity Goals”

Which is to say, apparently there is still ample opportunity to meet one’s ticket quota:

[A Staten Island good Samaritan] and the [person he was helping] stopped outside [the man’s] St. Marks Place apartment and asked a traffic agent if they could leave the truck there for a few mintues, explaining they were unloading donated supplies. They said she assured them it was fine.

“I run in the door; that same woman runs to my car, tickets it and then runs down the street,” [the good Samaritan] said.

What Do You Do On The B8 For Two Days?

On the one hand, at least they understand that things didn’t go well. On the other hand, well, my goodness:

A just-released report by MTA Inspector General Barry Kluger’s office reveals new and stunning details, including a few logic-defying decisions by supervisors and front-line personnel:

Assistant general managers at three southern Brooklyn depots said they knew many of the buses sent out into the storm were getting stuck. But they kept dispatching buses because they lacked authority to change service schedules.

When the bus division’s radio system crashed, some bus drivers who got stuck in the storm didn’t use their personal cell phones to call supervisors. They told investigators they believe NYC Transit rules prohibiting drivers from using cell phones remained in effect under any conditions.

There was “no plan for providing assistance to passengers taking shelter in snowbound buses.” Riders stranded on a B8 bus late Sunday night weren’t rescued until Tuesday morning. A pregnant woman and other riders spent 12 hours on the B65 before a bus superintendent arrived and drove them to their destinations.

The Horrible Truth About Creating A Permissive “Franco-Friendly Environment”

A NYU professor is allegedly fired for deigning to uphold his attendance policy:

James Franco’s tired James Dean act got an NYU professor booted from the school last year — after the teacher dared to give the overhyped Hollywood hunk a “D” for blowing off class, a lawsuit charges.

[The professor] said he slapped the “127 Hours” star with the bad grade because he missed 12 of his 14 “Directing the Actor II” classes while pursuing a master’s in fine arts.

[The professor] said he then suffered all kinds of drama — first from Franco, who publicly ridiculed him, then from his department, which axed him over the “D.”

“The school has bent over backwards to create a Franco-friendly environment, that’s for sure,” [the professor], 58, told The Post. “The university has done everything in its power to curry favor with James Franco.”
