Third Term Meltdown Watch: Staten Island Job Approval Ratings Lowest In City

And Staten Island is usually his wheelhouse:

Citywide, Bloomberg had a 54 to 35 percent job approval rating, up from 45 to 43 on July 27, and his best showing since the Christmas blizzard, according to a poll from Quinnipiac University.

But on the Island, Bloomberg has only a 39 percent approval rating, with 56 percent of borough voters disapproving of his performance.

It was Bloomberg’s worst showing in the city.

It’s not the kind of reception Bloomberg is used to here. The borough put Bloomberg in office in 2001 and helped him stay there in 2009.

The Island result baffled Quinnipiac pollster Maurice Carroll.

“I don’t understand why Staten Island’s number is so low,” he told the Advance. “People like him out there.”

As Fickle As The Weather

Though depending on the weather for a poll boost seems like a bad idea:

A Quinnipiac University poll out Monday found Bloomberg’s feeble approval rating jumped 11 points from a July survey to 54% — his highest score since the bungled December blizzard.

After Evaluating Terror Threat, Authorities Move To Protect Area Golf Courses; On Lookout For Something With Feathers That Likes To Shit On The Green At 14

“Al Qaeda Terror Threat Looking More Like a ‘Goose Chase'”:

A possible Al Qaeda plot to launch an attack during the 10th anniversary weekend of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks is “looking more and more like a goose chase,” a senior U.S. official told Fox News on Saturday.

Federal authorities have been questioning all day the credibility of a tip from a previously reliable source that that Al Qaeda had planned to attack Washington or New York, putting though both cities on high alert.

But authorities have not been able to corroborate any of the information from the source.

“The threat is looking less and less credible,” the official said, adding that the entire plot as outlined by the source “doesn’t seem feasible.”

“The time frame doesn’t make sense for when these operatives would have been moving into position,” the official said. “We are going back to the original source. The president will be briefed on it again in the morning, but people are questioning the credibility of this information at this time. Something is not adding up.”

Not Only Is It A $500 Million Memorial . . .

It will also cost $55 million a year to run; no one knows how they’ll pay for it:

The foundation that manages the memorial and museum has raised $412 million from private donors and hopes to collect an additional $17 million by the end of the year. Joseph C. Daniels, the president and chief executive of the memorial, said that sum should cover all costs through the end of 2012.

That calculation, however, does not account for $150 million that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey wants from the foundation as its share of underground construction work. The foundation has so far refused to pay that amount, Port Authority officials say.

But beyond next year, the costs of running the museum and maintaining and protecting the memorial plaza, with its pair of deep, granite-lined pools and grove of swamp white oak trees, will be at least $55 million annually, Mr. Daniels said. He has been lobbying in Washington for federal financing to cover part, if not most, of those expenses.

Meanwhile, the Post reports that New York’s Senators have proposed a bill to have the federal government partially fund the operating costs of the memorial and museum, but only $20 million a year, meaning that there will likely be an admission, only less than the $20-$25 officials are anticipating.
