The Problem With Hipster

Your neighborhood is either too cool, or not cool enough, for bikeshare kiosks:

The city’s new bike share program is set to offer thousands of wheels at 600 kiosks across Brooklyn and Manhattan beginning this summer — but the proposed plan leaves a significant chunk of Greenpoint without stations, according to a Department of Transportation draft.

Locals say there is a significant need for the program in the neighborhood, but the DOT’s recent map has not proposed bike kiosks east of [McGuinness] Boulevard, including McGolrick Park and other residential areas of Greenpoint.

Baby as coffeehouse accessory:

Brooklyn’s obsessive coffee culture is rubbing off on the borough’s youngest cafe-goers, with tots ditching their bottles and juice boxes in favor of “babyccinos” — mini decaf cappuccinos or frothy cups of steamed milk and foam.

Brooklyn Becomes Footloose

It almost makes me want to put on a bikini and ride my Big Wheel down the middle of the street, and I look terrible in a bikini:

“Young, upwardly mobile professionals may seem to be pleasant tenants who bring in reliable income, but they also introduce a very different way of life: new nightclubs and bars, sun tanning on rooftops, bike lanes and an increasing amount of immodesty on our streets.”

Ambulance Camouflage

That’s how you beat a ticket:

A mystery emergency vehicle, fitted with ambulance flashers and official markings, has hogged up space at an expired meter on Avenue N in Marine Park for more than a week, but has not been towed, area merchants claim — even though the “ambulance” is stuffed with construction material.
