Come See Beautiful Police Brutality!

NYCGo has nothing on this attraction:

An unlikely tourist attraction has joined the ranks of the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Ground Zero – the spot where Amadou Diallo was shot to death by cops.

Scores of tour buses stop by 1157 Wheeler Ave. every week, disgorging Europeans who excitedly take pictures against a mural dedicated to Diallo’s memory.

“Amadou Diallo is like the Disneyland of the Bronx,” said Wilson Varges, a tour guide for See Tourists. “It’s so popular no tour would be complete without stopping here.”

. . .

Since last year, the spot where he fell dead has been marked by an 18-foot mural dominated by his piercing brown eyes gazing out over the street.

The painting features four cops with guns drawn and wearing white hoods to the left of Diallo, under a skeleton-faced Statue of Liberty. The words “American Dream” tower overhead.

On a recent Saturday, tourists flashed the peace sign or smiled as they posed for pictures.

“It’s beautiful,” gushed Estaben Lacusa, 52, of Barcelona. “Those KKK cop hoods are quite a sight.”

“I had to see the place where the cops shot the unarmed Diallo 41 times,” said Rafeal Peces, 38, of Madrid.

Moral Of The Story . . .

Don’t underestimate Eli Manning’s ability to come back late in the game and definitely don’t overlook David Tyree’s incredible athletic prowess in case the two connect for a game-saving pass play during the Super Bowl:

Michael Terry, 40, said he invited three neighborhood drug dealers to his Belmont Ave. apartment to smoke pot, drink beer and watch the Giants beat the Patriots on Feb. 3, 2008.

The Giants won, the four toasted the victory, and his guests refused to leave. They stayed for three days and began selling drugs out of his living room, Terry told a Bronx Supreme Court jury.

It’s Time To Go Round A One Man Showdown Teach Us How to Fail

We don’t condone it, but we understand it:

Cops are hunting for a suspect, possibly fed up over parking tickets, who may fancy himself a rubber Robin Hood.

He slashed the tires of three NYPD Parking Enforcement cars in broad daylight on Monday.

. . .

Westchester Square has gained an infamous reputation for ticket blitzes against shoppers.

Struggling merchants also complain the agents hog precious metered spots with both official vehicles and their personal ones, which never seem to get ticketed.

“I’m not surprised that frustration would run that high, and that people would attempt to lash back out at enforcement in an improper manner,” said John Bonizio, president of the Association of the Merchants and Business Professionals of Westchester Square.

“Parking violation issues are the No. 1 complaint across New York City that people have about enforcement. It’s fraud.”

Merchants said the constant ticketing is hurting their business.

“It’s killing us,” said Marco Rossetti, 33, co-owner of Frank and Joe’s Deli in Westchester Square. “It’s wrong, but I can understand his frustration.

“Truthfully, we’re not given a chance. Their office is located directly above us. The agents come down 10, 15 at a time, stand in front of my store. People that pull over don’t get a second to stop.”

Location Scout: Westchester Square.

I Love Livin’ In The City!

Maybe you thought your living situation was bad:

Not so long ago, pigeons were being raised on the roof of 2320 Aqueduct, prompting an invasion of rats on the floors below. More recently, prostitutes plied their trade in the lobby’s utility closet (and, when kicked out, they merely took their johns to a nearby radiator and sprawled on it). When the dope dealer out front concluded his business for the day, you could find him living in the building’s elevator machine room, perhaps cooking a chicken on his hibachi. Currently, a makeshift casino and numbers parlor operates out of a first-floor apartment — and that’s one of the place’s amenities.

And yet there’s such a knowledgeable, involved tenants’ association president:

“I’m the equalizer in the building,” Adolph Santana says with a smile. “Whether you’re gay or straight, sick or going blind — I’ll help anybody. I’m the president of the tenants association! I know when the girls get their periods. Kids come out to me. Everybody knocks on my door.”

Your Front Lawn Is Useful Not Only For Parking Buses But Issuing Sanitation Tickets, Too

Everybody’s busy finding solutions to people’s bad behavior:

Gennarelli has lived on E. Tremont Avenue between Philip and Randall avenues since 1996. In 2000 or 2001, the city extended a bus stop from the corner of E. Tremont and Randall avenues, in front of Pete’s Donut Shop & Restaurant, up further, in front of five private homes, the widow said. The bus stop is designed to hold two tandem buses, Gennarelli added.

Prior to the change, the city consulted Community Board 10, but Gennarelli, who returns home from work in Manhattan at around 7 p.m., wasn’t able to attend the meeting, she explained. Not only are Gennarelli and her neighbors ticketed for trash, buses and bus passengers often block her driveway, she said.

Some two years ago, Gennarelli purchased a trashcan for the bus stop. She locked it to a pole but when the city Department of Sanitation stopped by to take the trash, the trashcan was unlocked and stolen, Gennarelli said. When Klein interceded, she spoke to a DSNY supervisor who told her that trashcans are only allowed on corners.

The supervisor had Gennarelli’s property observed and found her guilty of no violations. But the ticket barrage didn’t end. Gennarelli thinks that the city uses ECB tickets to raise revenue; her tickets have all been excused.

Gennarelli thinks that a single DSNY agent wrote her tickets on November 14 and November 19. Her November 19 ticket reads: “I observed a large accumulation of scattered bottles, cigarette packs, paper bags, pieces of paper, tissue wrappers and other debris in the front yard,” Gennarelli said. It was issued between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

“I don’t smoke cigarettes!” Gennarelli groused. “I get to work at 8:30 a.m.”
