Yankees Fans Doing Their Best To Welcome Cliff Lee Into The Fold

Yankees fans were on their best behavior during the ALCS, which apparently impressed Cliff Lee’s wife:

Perhaps the Rangers’ greatest sales pitch simply was having Kristen sit in the visiting family section at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs. She says there were ugly taunts. Obscenities. Cups of beer thrown. Even fans spitting from the section above.

“The fans did not do good things in my heart,” Kristen says.

“When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it’s hard not to take it personal.”

Not to worry — Yankees fans treat you like royalty once you wear the pinstripes.

And WABC’s Scott Clark just called out Philadelphia, saying on the 6 p.m. news that this was behavior you’d expect from Phillies fans, not Yankees fans. Maybe he’s right — in Philadelphia they’d probably vomit on the players’ wives.

Most Awesome Cop Ever

It’s sort of like what might happen if Marge Gunderson lived in Bed-Stuy instead of Fargo:

One bullet whizzed past Officer Jones’s head. She fired back, emptying her five-shot revolver. One shot knocked the gun from the man’s two-handed grip, piercing his right middle finger and grazing his left hand, according to the police. Another shot hit the lock on the front door, jamming it.

One shot knocks the gun out of the suspect’s hand, and the other one locks the door . . . that’s like something you see in a movie. Wow . . . and this was the first time she had to use her gun. She was promoted to detective today.

(Ray Kelly owes her more than that for the bad PR day they had.)

Recession Over, Bloomberg Plans To Vote To Restore Two Term Limit

“[A]s if you needed any more proof that the business of politics — especially in New York — is retaining power to one’s self and marginalizing it from everyone else as much as possible, well, now you have more.”

But She Does Have A Great Personality . . .

I think it’s important for blocks to understand that not every block can be as beautiful as certain other blocks, and that giving them false hope may lead to further disappointment down the road, as it were:

The ugliest stretch of midtown — and maybe all of Manhattan — is 35th St. between Sixth and Seventh Aves., according to Municipal Art Society member Frank Addeo.

“It’s midtown’s ugliest block,” said the former Department of Transportation and Downtown Alliance staffer, who highlighted the spot as part of an “Ugly Streets” walking tour Friday.

“Blank-wall buildings drive me crazy,” he said, gesturing to the shuttered back entrances and boring brick along the block.

Scaffolding and sidewalk sheds cover the back side of Macy’s along the entire south side of the block, making it even darker.

People who walk the block every day were far from surprised at its dubious distinction, although a homeless man wearing underwear on his head seemed to find it an ideal spot to spend the afternoon.

Buried Lede: How Did They Get Those Seats For Only $375?

So much for Aura and Mystique — I thought those tickets were like $1200 or something during the regular season:

It was any Yankee fan’s dream: Late October, the playoffs, the Yankees leading the game, and plenty of food paid by expense accounts and $11 beers being delivered by waiters. After some chat about business and baseball, the inevitable question was raised: when to head for the exit.

It was the fourth inning.

Nonetheless, with evening approaching, ballpark cheers gave way to the siren song of Manhattan and the comforts of an evening of luxury, a short Lincoln Town Car ride away.

Despite paying $375 per ticket on StubHub, the men had no qualms about leaving early, the very idea of which, if introduced in certain other ballparks in certain other cities, might result in a Budweiser bath.
